Pound cake is a traditionally made cake with a pound of each of four main ingredients viz, flour, butter, eggs and sugar. This cake, which originated in Europe, is generally baked in a loaf pan or bundt mold. This is a simple, soft and easy to make cake.
Ingredients
1. Butter – 200 gms
2. Sugar powder – 200 gms
3. Eggs – 3-4 (200 gms)
4. Maida – 200 gms
5. Baking powder – 1½ tsp
6. Salt – ¼ tsp
7. Vanilla essence – 1½ tsp
8. Milk – ½ cup
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
2. Butter the baking tray and line the bottom with butter paper.
3. Mix maida, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
4. In another bowl whisk butter with sugar. Add eggs one by one and continue to beat till fluffy. Add milk and vanilla essence and beat once again. Fold in maida mix little by little and pour into the greased tray.
5. Bake on the centre rack of the oven for 40-45 minutes or till done.
6. Remove the cake from oven and let it cool before cutting it.
Tips
1. A toothpick inserted into the centre of cake while in oven will come out clean if done.
2. It is important to ensure that all ingredients are at room temperature for better results.
3. If using salted butter then adding salt separately is not required.
