This is a flavourful meat sauce which is children’s favourite and easy to prepare. The sauce is a sweet and savory combination with a perfect texture and consistency.
Ingredients
1. Olive oil (or any other oil) or butter – 1 Tbsp
2. Minced meat (chicken, mutton or beef) – 500 gm
3. Onion chopped – 1 medium
4. Capsicum chopped – 1 medium
5. Celery chopped – 1 stalk
6. Garlic crushed – 4 cloves
7. Brown sugar – 1 Tbsp
8. Red wine vinegar or any vinegar – 1 Tbsp
9. Steak seasoning or steak sauce – 2 tsp
10. Worcestershire sauce – 1 Tbsp
11. Tomato sauce – 1½ cup
12. Tomato paste – 2 Tbsp
13. Chilli flakes – 2 tsp
14. Mustard paste – 1 tsp
15. Chilli sauce – 1 tsp
16. Salt
17. Pepper
Preparation
1. Heat oil or butter on medium heat and add the minced meat.
2. Spread the meat in the pan and stir continuously, not allowing to form lumps.
3. Then add brown sugar, steak seasoning and mix well.
4. When the meat is browned add onion, celery and capsicum. Reduce heat to medium till done. Add garlic and mix well for a minute.
5. Add vinegar and Worcestershire sauces and mustard paste. Stir for 5 minutes.
6. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, chilli sauce, chilli flakes, salt and pepper.
7. Mix and simmer for 5 minutes or until mixture is thickened.
8. Remove from heat and spoon on to toasted buttered buns.
9. Serve with sliced seasoned tomatoes.
Tips
Meat should not be over cooked otherwise it may become hard.
