This is one of the most popular vegetarian dishes. This easy recipe is a traditional North Indian cuisine and is typically served with roti, parathas, naan etc. Paneer is cooked in spinach (palak) puree and spices in this creamy flavourful curry. It can be made with tofu instead of paneer.
Ingredients
For the Palak Paste
1. Palak (Spinach) – 1 bunch (250 gms)
2. Ginger – ½ inch piece
3. Green chilli – 2-3
4. Cummin seeds – ½ tsp
5. Tomato – 1
6. Onion (medium size) – ½ (chopped)
7. Salt
Other Ingredients
1. Paneer (Cottage cheese) – 200 gms
2. Oil or Ghee – 1 Tbsp
3. Cummin seeds (jeera) – ½ tsp
4. Onion (medium size) – ½ (chopped)
5. Kasuri methi (optional) – 1 tsp
6. Fresh cream – 1 Tbsp
7. Salt
Preparation
1. Clean and chop all ingredients for Palak paste. Cook with ¼ cup water. Cool and grind to a fine paste. Keep aside.
2. Heat oil in a pan. Crackle cummin seeds and then add onion chopped. Saute till brown. Add the ground palak paste and saute.
3. Mix well and add water to adjust the consistency and then add cubed paneer and mix gently.
4. Cook in medium flame for 5 minutes. Mix in kasuri methi and remove from fire.
5. Transfer to the serving bowl and garnish with fresh cream.
Tips
1. Tofu can be used in place of paneer.
