MARBLE CAKE (ZEBRA CAKE)

Marble cake (Zebra cake) is a mixture of white and chocolate cake. This delicious and moist cake is layered with vanilla and chocolate batters in a pan to create a stripes effect which makes the inside of the cake zebra or marble stripes.


Ingredients

1. Maida - 1 cup

2. Baking powder – 1 tsp

3. Baking soda – ¼ tsp

4. Milk powder – 2 Tbsp

5. Egg – 3

6. Vanilla essence – 1 tsp

7. Milk – 2 Tbsp

8. Cocoa powder – 3-4 Tbsp

9. Sugar – ½ cup

10. Oil – ½ cup

11. Salt

12. Vinegar – ¾ tsp


Preparation

1. In a bowl add maida, baking powder, baking soda, a pinch of salt and milk powder and mix well. Keep aside.

2. Mix cocoa powder with milk and keep aside.

3. Beat the eggs and vanilla essence. Add sugar powder. Beat well and add oil. Beat well.

4. Add maida mix, folding in slowly. Divide the mixture into half and transfer in two bowls.

5. Add the cocoa mixture to one of the bowl and mix well. Then add 2-3 drops of vinegar and mix slowly.

6. Add ½ tsp vinegar to the white batter in the other bowl and mix slowly.

7. Pour the batters alternatively into a greased baking pan.

8. Tap the pan few times to let out the locked in air.

9. Bake in a preheated oven, at 180 degree Celsius for 35-40 minutes or until done.


Tips

1. For a perfect marble pattern pour the batters at the centre of the pan alternately. It will take the pattern on its own.

2. Add sugar as per your preference.
