This is a unique non veg spicy and wholesome dish using the eggs of fish and is one of the tastiest dishes which can be enjoyed with rice and rotis. This is a delicacy in Kerala and other coastal regions. Fish egg is rich in vital nutrients like omega 3, fatty acids and other nutrients.
Ingredients
1. Fish egg – 250 gm
2. Shallots or onions sliced – 1 cup
3. Ginger crushed – 1 Tbsp
4. Garlic crushed – ½ Tbsp
5. Green chilli – 3-4
6. Fenugreek seeds(methi) – ½ tsp
7. Fenugreek powder (methi) – ¼ tsp
8. Red chilli crushed or powder – 1 Tbsp
9. Pepper powder – 1tsp
10. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
11. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
12. Garam masala (optional) – 1 tsp
13. Grated coconut – ½ cup
14. Oil – 2 Tbsp
15. Salt
16. Curry leaves
Preparation
1. Heat oil, crackle fenugreek seeds, add ginger, garlic and green chilli. Saute for few seconds on medium flame and add the shallots and curry leaves. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
2. Then add salt, fenugreek powder, pepper powder, crushed red chilli, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Mix well. Add grated coconut and sauté for few seconds.
3. Add fish egg. Mix gently and cook covered on low flame for 5 minutes. Then stir and crush the eggs. Again cover and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring in between. Then sprinkle garam masala and mix. Saute for a minute and remove from fire.
4. Keep it covered for 5 minutes and serve hot.
Tips
1. Cooking in coconut oil gives the authentic taste.
2. Quantity of grated coconut can be varied as per your taste.
