This is a tasty halwa with a smooth, soft and moist texture. A delicious and popular North Indian dessert and is easy to make with few ingredients. I have used jaggery as sweetener.
Ingredients
1. Wheat flour (atta) – 1 cup
2. Water – 3 cups
3. Sugar or jaggery powder – 1 cup
4. Ghee – ½ cup
5. Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
6. Cashew – few
Preparation
1. Mix wheat flour with water and blend in a mixie.
2. Heat 2 Tbsp in a pan and roast the cashews and keep aside.
3. Heat the same pan on low flame and pour the flour/atta mixture. Keep stirring till it gets thick. Then add one Tbsp of ghee and stir continuously for 5 minutes.
4. Add the rest of the ghee little by little while continuously stirring. It takes about 10-15 minutes to cook.
5. Add sugar/jaggery and mix well. Keep stirring till it becomes thick.
6. Add cardamom powder and keep stirring till it leaves the sides of the pan.
7. Transfer to a greased bowl. Garnish with roasted cashew nuts.
Tips
1. Jaggery gives a darker colour to the dish.
2. Vary the quantity of ghee as per your taste.
3. It should be cooked on low flame only.
