This is a very popular Punjabi dish which is basically made with chicken and onion cut in two ways. It has thick and rich tomato gravy and goes well with rotis, naan etc.
Ingredients
For marination
1. Chicken – 500 gm
2. Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
3. Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
4. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
5. Salt
Other ingredients
1. Curd – ½ cup
2. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
3. Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
4. Coriander powder – 2 tsp
5. Cumin powder – 1 tsp
6. Onions – 2 chopped
7. Ginger garlic – 1 tsp
8. Tomato puree – 2 tomatoes
9. Green chilli – 3
10. Garam masala or chicken masala – 1 tsp
11. Kasuri methi dry – 1 tsp
12. Salt
13. Onion cut into cubes – 1 big
14. Tomato cubed – 1
15. Coriander leaves – 2 Tbsp
16. Oil – 3 Tbsp
Preparation
1. Marinate the chicken with the ingredients under marination. Keep aside for 30 minutes.
2. Mix curd with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder and keep aside.
3. Heat oil in a pan or kadai. Add chopped onions. Fry till light brown and add ginger garlic paste and fry for 2-3 minutes.
4. Add the tomato puree and salt and mix well. Sauté till oil separates.
5. Lower the heat and add the curd mixture. Mix and stir well. Cook till oil separates.
6. Add the marinated chicken. Sauté for 3-4 minutes and add garam masala and cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes.
7. Add half cup of hot water. Mix well. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.
8. Add the onion cubes and green chillies. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
9. Add roasted kasuri methi powder and cubed tomatoes. Cook for 2-3 minutes on low heat.
10. Garnish with coriander leaves and remove from fire.
